LEO SMITH
Leo Smith was born on January 11, 2018, to Christina Smith. Christina is a single mother, living in Essington, and has two other children, Conner who is four, and Juliet who is seven. At 10 weeks old Leo had open heart surgery. Before surgery Leo tested positive for Pre-B Cell PBX1 Leukemia, which is a genetic mutation that results in heart and development complications and can in some cases lead to leukemia. This test result prompted testing for the entire family. Juliet and Christina tested positive. Conner’s test was negative. Christina was found to be the first parent to ever genetically pass down missing chromosome Pre-Cell 1 PBX leukemia to her children. Christina was out of work for twelve weeks to care for Leo’s medical needs. He will have many life sustaining surgeries throughout his life and will be at high risk for heart attacks and heart complications. The PBX 1 has affected Leo’s heart and kidneys. Leo is now finally home with a feeding tube. Christina is fearful that she is unable to monitor her baby’s heart and breathing when she is at work or sleeping. Christina was unable to get a heart monitor and is hoping to get a monitoring system. In addition, Christina will need help caring for her son so that she can continue to work and maintain a home for her children.

BROOKLYN SELAH
Brooklyn was three months old when a sweat test confirmed cystic fibrosis (CF), an inherited disease that affects the glands that makes mucus, digestive fluids, and sweat. There is currently no cure for this condition. Brooklyn’s mother Christa knew that she carried the gene mutation but didn’t know that Brooklyn’s father Ray was a carrier. Christa and Ray have two other healthy children. This news was a shock since both parents must carry the gene for the baby to be born with CF. With the help and support of the Cystic Fibrosis Center, and her parents, Brooklyn, now 15 months old, is active and strong. Brooklyn is so active that she did not like sitting still for her daily twenty- minute chest PT treatments. Christa solved that issue with what she has named the “treatment play list” which consists of her daughter’s favorite music videos. Brooklyn watches the music videos during treatment. The family is adjusting to their “new normal” caring for Brooklyn, Christa stated “Once you figure everything out and get into a routine you realize things are going to be OK.” The new normal for the family has now become a routine that will become a life time of adjustments.

KISSES FOR KYLE
Kisses For Kyle – Yachtstock 2015 Beneficiary & Partner
After a very successful fundraising campaign in 2014, raising over $22,000, Yachtstock felt the need to add an additional beneficiary to our 2015 charity efforts. After meeting with representatives for Kisses For Kyle, a charity established in the Philadelphia region in 2001, we knew we had found not only an excellent beneficiary but also an active partner for our 2015 RiverJam campaign.
KISSES FOR KYLE: THEIR STORY
In 1998, Kyle Snyder was just three weeks shy of his second birthday when he was diagnosed with Leukemia. After a brave but brief eight-month fight, he lost his life to cancer. In 2001, his mother Sharon founded The Kisses for Kyle Foundation to honor Kyle’s memory and to assist families in the Delaware Valley region who are battling childhood cancer.
